A Watergram is a cameraless photographic process: light from a flash passes through moving water and falls directly onto photosensitive paper. The resulting print is the physical trace of the water's movement at the instant of exposure. Each print is unique and cannot be repeated.
This four-hour workshop will introduce you to the technique from first principles and build up to more advanced variations, including sound-driven (cymatic) water patterns and combining a Watergram with a photographic negative.
Francisco Macfarlane (Argentina, based in Berlin) works with both camera and cameraless photography. Processes in which light, water, plants, sound and chemistry act directly on silver-gelatin paper. He is part of Stattlab, a darkroom and photographic collective in Berlin and led a watergrams workshop at this year’s Experimental Photofestival in Barcelona.
Participants on this workshop must have a basic grasp of black and white photographic printing.
